Instructions for Completing the Pending Degree List

  1. Be sure that the program code and degree name are accurate.
  2. If a petition is required, submit it immediately to the Graduate College. All petitions must be approved in order to certify the degree.
  3. All cells in yellow must be entered as appropriate:
    • Action: You may add or delete candidates on the First and/or Second Pending Degree List (PDL). However, no candidate will be added to the Final PDL.
    • Thesis Required: For master’s degree candidates who have the option to choose thesis or non-thesis, please indicate whether or not a thesis is required on the Final List.
    • All Dept Requirements are Met: On the Final List, this section must be marked Y (yes) for each student who is to be certified.
    • Continuing for PhD: 
      • If the student is seeking a master’s degree while continuing in a PhD program, please mark Y (yes) in this section. There is no need to take further action.
      • If the student is currently in a PhD program and would like to finish with a master’s degree instead, please mark N (no) in this section and indicate this under comments. A petition must be submitted because Graduate College approval is needed.
      • If the student is only enrolled in a master’s program, please mark N (no).
    • Change all PhD 599 “DFR” grades to “S”: On the Final List, this section must be marked Y (yes) for each student who is to be certified. Exception: if any “DFR” grades for past semesters are to remain, a petition is required and this must be indicated under comments.
    • Joint Degree: If you mark Y (yes), please provide the program code for each of the degrees in the comments section.
    • Comments: Any relevant information should be entered here. For example:
      • If any  “DFR” grade is to remain must be approved via Graduate College petition process
      • Relevant petition on file with the Graduate College
      • Joint degree
      • Change to terminal master’s
