About The Office of Admissions & Records

The Office of Admissions and Records (OAR) is a service unit whose primary mission is to serve students and their families at each stage of their relationship with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign: as prospective students, as enrolled students, and as former students or alumni. This broad mission encompasses a multitude of functions: recruiting undergraduates, scheduling new-student orientation, coordinating online registration activities, managing and maintaining student records, producing transcripts from official academic records, and so on.

This wide range of activities is supported by a sophisticated computing infrastructure, and staff at all levels are also involved in designing both internal information systems as well as campus-wide systems that support admissions, registration, and the maintenance of student records. OAR has a vested interest in perpetuating its leadership role in these areas because it is accountable for the accuracy and integrity of the student data it collects and for releasing that information in accordance with existing regulations and guidelines.

Organizationally, OAR is divided into the following units:

  • Undergraduate Admissions (recruiting and admissions)
  • Records (registration, tuition assessment and transcripts)

The office also runs the Campus Visitors Center and a satellite office at the Illini Center in Chicago. The department employs approximately 120 people.
