Visiting Campus FAQ

  1. May I schedule a visit without calling?
  2. I have already been admitted and visited campus during the summer. Will I benefit from visiting again?
    • Many students choose to visit campus several times when making a final decision. During February, March, and April, the 10:00 a.m. program focuses on information for admitted students, including placement testing, summer orientation, and housing.
  3. How do I get to campus?
  4. Where do I park when visiting?
    • Metered parking is available in lot D-9 at the corner of Lincoln and Illinois Streets in Urbana. Additional metered parking is available on the street or in lots near the Campus Visitors Center and Admissions and Records. If you forget to bring change, change can be made at the Visitors Center.   5. What if I want an overnight visit?
    • Because more than 24,000 people visit the Campus Visitors Center each year, we are unable to schedule overnight visits; however, prospective students are welcome to make individual arrangements with friends on campus. Visitors may also contact local hotels, including the Illini Union, phone: (217) 333-1241.
  6. May I arrange for an individual admissions appointment?
    • Yes, appointments are available with admissions counselors, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Appointments may be made by a Campus Visitors Center staff member or by calling (217) 333-0302.
  7. What if I would like an individual appointment with an academic representative?
    • Many colleges, including Engineering and Liberal Arts and Sciences, have walk-in hours available with deans or advisors. Other colleges require appointments. If you would like to request an individual appointment with an academic representative, please schedule your visit through the Campus Visitors Center at (217) 333-0824 at least two weeks in advance.
  8. I have financial aid questions. Does your program cover this?
    • Brief financial aid information is provided during the program and in the Viewbook that is distributed during the visit. The Office of Student Financial Aid has walk-in hours available for speaking with financial aid counselors, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  9. May I visit a class while on campus?
    • Yes, a list of pre-approved classes for visiting is available through the Campus Visitors Center.
  10. How many residence halls do we see on the tour?
    • The Illinois Street Residence Halls (Wardall and Townsend) are toured. They are conveniently located across the street from the Campus Visitors Center. Guests also have the option of individually visiting other residence halls.
