Alternate Offer Information
If a freshman applicant was given an alternate offer of admission, the following information was included on the student’s notice of admission letter:
Applicants to Business that were offered admission to LAS:
If you hope to transfer into the College of Business at a later time, please consult the College of Business website (www.business.uiuc.edu/undergrad/prospective_students/inter_college.html) for the most current Inter-College Transfer (ICT) information. Students who are successful in transferring to Business typically have performed very well academically at Illinois, completed all required coursework, and demonstrated strong leadership ability. Admission is on a competitive basis.
Applicants to Engineering that were offered admission to LAS:
If you are interested in transferring into the College of Engineering at a later time, you will need to make sure that you do well academically at Illinois and take the appropriate coursework that includes sequences in calculus, calculus-based physics, and chemistry to help facilitate this transfer. Discuss this with your advisor.
Applicants to Bioengineering that were offered admission to a different program:
Due to the limited space availability within the bioengineering curriculum, transferring to bioengineering at a later time will most likely not be possible.
Applicants to Architecture that were offered admission to Landscape Architecture or Urban & Regional Planning:
If you are interested in transferring into the architectural studies program at a later time, you will need to make sure that you do well academically at Illinois and take the appropriate coursework that includes sequences in calculus and western civilization to help facilitate this transfer. Discuss this with your advisor.
Applicants to the performing arts that were admitted to a different performing arts program:
If you are interested in transferring to the program you originally requested, you will need to work with your academic advisor and the college office. Aside from completing any required coursework, you will also need to pass the audition required for your intended major.
Applicants to Education that were admitted to the general curriculum in LAS:
Students interested in being certified to teach begin the teacher certification process and coursework in their junior year, with the exception of Special Education which begins in the sophomore year. Students apply for the teacher certification program during the spring semester of their sophomore year in college, or during their freshman year if interested in Special Education. The courses required to begin the teacher certification process can be taken in the General Curriculum Program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Students interested in becoming high school teachers remain in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, major in the subject they wish to teach, and minor in Secondary School Teaching through the College of Education.
Applicants to Liberal Arts & Sciences that were redirected to the general curriculum within LAS:
If you are interested in pursuing the academic program which you originally requested within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, you will need to complete any required course prerequisites along with maintaining a competitive grade point average. Most LAS majors require a cumulative grade point average of 2.0. Click here for a specific listing of those programs with more competitive criteria, and check under "LAS Curricular Declaration Criteria." All of the courses required for declaring majors within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences can be completed while a student is in General Curriculum.
Applicants to all other programs that were redirected to the general curriculum in LAS:
We are unable to offer you admission into your selected program at this time. Instead, we would like to offer you admission to the General Curriculum program due to your strong academic credentials. Working with your academic advisor, you will be able to take courses to prepare you for your desired major while completing your general education degree requirements.
