Students enrolled in the Colleges of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences; Business; Engineering; Fine and Applied Arts; or the biochemistry, biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, computer science, integrative biology, mathematics, molecular/cellular biology, physics, and statistics programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences may be assessed a higher tuition rate up to the high end of the range shown. For tuition details for specific programs, visit www.osfa.uiuc.edu/cost.
** Other expenses include allowances for transportation, clothing, recreation, and other living/miscellaneous expenses. These expenses vary greatly based on the individual student’s lifestyle and the allowance is based on what are considered reasonable, but modest, costs after surveying segments of our student population.
Other Financial Requirements for International Students
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security requires both undergraduate and graduate students to certify financial resources for living expenses for the full twelve months of each calendar year that a student will be attending his/her program at our institution. The living expense amounts stated above are for these full twelve months. If an undergraduate student plans to enroll in courses for the summer session, he/she is required to certify financial resources for the additional summer tuition amount of $7,800. If a graduate student plans to enroll in courses for the summer session, he/she is required to certify financial resources for the additional summer tuition amount of $8,529. These additional summer tuition amounts (for both undergraduate and graduate) do not include any funds for travel.
Married students who will be accompanied by spouses (and/or children), must certify additional financial resources to both the institution and to the U.S. embassy or consular office in order for dependent visas to be issued. The current estimated cost for accompanying dependents is as follows: for one dependent, approximately $383 per month ($4,600 per year); for two dependents, approximately $623 per month ($7,480 per year); and each additional dependent is $160 per month. Costs are calculated per 12-month period.
Purchase of the University Insurance Plan, which provides worldwide medical insurance coverage, is mandatory unless proof of equivalent coverage is provided. Health insurance is also available to students' dependents for an additional fee.
