One-on-One
Where is your favorite spot on campus to study?
I love Grainger Engineering Library, but I like to study on the Quad when it's warm outside.
Where is your favorite spot on campus to hang out with your friends?
I like being on the Quad during the day. Green Street is the best for hanging out with friends in the evening. You can always find a place that will fit your mood.
Where is your favorite spot on campus to relax?
When I'm trying to relax, I go for a run around campus.
What do you like most about your major?
I have not decided on a major yet, but I enjoy being in the General Studies program because I can take classes that relate to many professional fields and open doors to numerous opportunities. When I came to Illinois, I was not decided on what I wanted to study. I am so glad that I came in with an open mind because it has given me the chance to explore my different interests.
What are your favorite courses within your major?
I loved ECON 202: Economic Statistics, because all of the
knowledge I gained in that class will be useful in the future. I also liked ECON 103: Macroeconomic Principles because it was a great overview of how the economy works and many of the concepts that were covered will always play a part in my life.
What are your favorite extracurricular activities related to your major?
I enjoy working in the community, so although it's not directly linked to my major, inter-personal communication, networking, decision-making, and other processes are involved, which are activities related to all majors.
What are your favorite extracurricular activities not related to your major?
I volunteer at a local elementary school where I tutor students during school and after-school programs. I absolutely love it.
Describe your most memorable experience at Illinois.
It's definitely the 2006 Relay for Life walk. It is a philanthropic event that raises money for cancer research and it lasts all night! I still can't believe that so many students got involved and dedicated their time to such an important cause. It was amazing.
What is your advice for students interested in Illinois?
My advice for students is to not fear the size. I can say that even though this school is big, you will always run into people you know. You make so many friends immediately and the campus becomes very small. It's hard to imagine until you get here.
Why do you belong at Illinois?
I belong because there are so many opportunities and I found my niche here. I honestly don't think that a student can come here and not belong.
