The Quad

What is your favorite club or organization on campus that you are involved with?

Alpha Phi Omega--my service fraternity

What do you like most about your major?

Course work is very 'learn on your own'. In this way, I'm able to learn things my own way.

What are your favorite courses within your major?

Computer Science125: Introduction to Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering 290: Introduction to Computer Engineering are two of my favorite courses because they are fundamental to the major and enjoyable. Introduction to Computer Science introduces programming to students and allows them to be in control of their programs. Introduction to Computer Engineering is a great class because it allows for a lot of design and creativity from the start.

What are your favorite extra curricular activities related to your major?

Eta Kappa Nu is a great organization because it allows students to tutor other students in their major. I was given the opportunity to reinforce my own understanding of the material in my classes by helping others understand the same material.

What are your favorite extra curricular activities NOT related to your major?

Alpha Phi Omega--service fraternity--and Honors Student Council. With Alpha Phi Omega, I am able to give back to the community as best I can through volunteer work spanning all types of service. The Honors Student Council allows me to plan campus wide events for honors students and anyone else willing to participate.

Describe your most memorable experience at Illinois.

After coming back from studying abroad, I spent some of my time on the Quad by myself, knowing that I wouldn't go more than five minutes without seeing someone I knew. After having been gone, I realized I had missed so much and yet so little all at once. It was a great feeling knowing that no matter where I went, or how long I was gone, I still belonged at Illinois. I'll never forget that week, simply because it will always remind me of the classes, the organizations, and the friends, the things that make me feel like an Illini.

Why do you belong at Illinois?

I am an Illini. It's quite simple how I know that. I can't leave my room without saying hi to at least one person on the way to class, whether I met that person through class, or in an organization, or even in the dorm. I go to class having learned something I didn't know when I walked in. Illinois teaches me classroom material, but it also teaches me about life through social interactions and helping others. I belong at Illinois because it gives me all it can, and I give as much back as I can. Illinois makes me happy.
