Campus Atmosphere

Hello Future Illini,

One of my favorite things about the University is the feeling of camaraderie here. Although there are around 40,000 students, it is amazing how fast you get to know people and how often you see them around campus. Whether it’s people from your classes, your residence hall, or a club you joined, you'll run into them everywhere.

The campus is very centralized, with most student's classes near each other’s on the Quad, so it really feels like we're our own little community. I suppose we are in a way: we have restaurants, shops, a post office, and our own police department – pretty much everything a small town does.

The campus itself is absolutely beautiful, no matter what time of year you're here. There are so many historic buildings and unique monuments scattered across it, you constantly find new favorite places to study or just sit and read a good book. Overall, the University is a very open, comfortable place and that was one of the key reasons I chose to come here. I hope to see you around campus soon.
