Computer Connections and Wireless Access

  • Campus provides multiple 1 Gigabit/sec high-speed connections to the Internet.
  • Wireless network is available in libraries, computer labs, and public spaces in University Residence Halls, for a total of more than 1,000 wireless access points, with more being added every month.
  • Approximately 77% of all classrooms have wireless coverage.
  • More than 70,000 computer connections on the campus network.

  • The campus online learning management system supports more than 1,000 courses.
  • “Smart” classrooms are outfitted with the latest multimedia equipment.
  • All students are provided with e-mail, web publishing, and anytime/anywhere file storage space.
  • Web services, like the campus phonebook, are available to web-enabled cell phones.
  • The University of Illinois is a national leader in making information technology accessible to everyone, including students with disabilities.

Personal Computers and Software

The University does not require its undergraduate students to own a computer, and the available campus facilities meet the computing needs of many students; however, students may purchase their own. Many students find it both convenient and helpful to have their own computers, and Illinois is working to increase services that students can access with their own computers.

IDs

As a student at the University of Illinois, you will be asked to create passwords for your NetID and your Enterprise ID, which are required when using many of our campus services. To claim and set your NetID and NetID password, you will need your University Identification Number (UIN), located on the back of your Notice of Admission letter (included in the Admitted Student Guide packet).

NetID

Your NetID and NetID password are used for your Illinois e-mail account. More information on your NetID.

Enterprise ID

Your Enterprise (EAS) ID and password are for accessing the Banner system, which are used for such things as registering for classes and viewing your tuition bill. More information on your Enterprise ID.
